Seventy Years of Photographic Safaris
Ker & Downey Safaris

Safari aficionados often credit Ker & Downey as the founders of the luxury African mobile safari. It’s an accolade few would deny us. From their first safari together in 1946, Donald Ker and Syd Downey quickly developed a reputation – and an unmatched proficiency – for outfitting seriously stylish safaris. Camps were erected deep in the bush, with Bedford lorries ferrying in every imaginable luxury: from fine wines and jet-fresh foods, to wind-up gramophones, crystal glasses, and canvas bathtubs.

Today, a Ker & Downey safari remains the ultimate in all-inclusive luxury. After 70 years in the trade, we have the broadest network of campsites and conservancies, authentic cultural connections and remarkable conservation projects in some of the most wild and beautiful places on the planet. Our long-standing relationships with landowners, wildlife managers, conservationists and archaeologists provide us with definitive local knowledge, while our decades-old links with tribal elders, rangers, camel and horse operators, and helicopter pilots deliver us right to the heart of the wilderness.

The standards of luxury are still expansive, with our camp crew – many of them third-generation K&D staff – providing exquisite made-to-order cuisine, conscientious service, and genuine friendship. In camp, your every need is taken care of, from freshly baked bread and daily laundry service to piping hot showers and ice-cold drinks. Above all, the permanent presence of your guide will ensure that you want for nothing, learn everything, and take away something – something magical, something unforgettable – from every moment of your safari…
