Leading the way for 75 years

Since 1946, Ker & Downey has been leading safaris across East and Southern Africa, connecting discerning travellers with the World’s most fabled wilderness regions. With a peerless guiding pedigree, an exceptional travel network and a proud history of supporting conservation and local communities, Ker & Downey continues to bring true luxury to the wildest corners on Earth.

Today, Ker & Downey is celebrated as the longest-running safari outfitter in Africa. “K&D” pioneered photographic safaris and continues to lead the way for others to follow. To this day there remains only one name that is synonymous with going on safari and a world of adventure,
“The Original Ker & Downey Safaris”.

Mobile Safaris

Seventy years of safari experience have taught us that the best way to get close to Africa – to experience its sights and sounds, its deep-within-you essence – is to stay in a mobile camp.

Our Guides

There are many ingredients that make up the perfect African safari. But there is one factor that separates a truly exceptional safari from all others: the presence of a dependable, knowledgeable and resourceful guide.

When you come on safari with Ker & Downey, you become part of the most experienced and trusted family in the safari business – a family with a guiding lineage that dates back to the dawn of the safari era.

Our guides are all natural leaders in the field, who have been taking people on safari all their adult lives. In most cases, they grew up in rural Africa, learning their bushcraft and tracking skills from their fathers and grandfathers and their guides – men who were, even back then, legends in the trade.

Luxury Camps

While camp is moving to its next destination, we often use beautiful boutique lodges or ‘bush homes’ as stepping stones on our safaris.
