Angus Melesi

Born and brought up in Kenya, Angus is a second-generation member of the Ker and Downey family. His father, Tim Melesi, has been closely involved with Ker and Downey for many years, and Angus spent much of his childhood in the bush, learning from his family and the guides who worked alongside them. Much of his childhood was also spent on the Kenyan coast, where he developed a lifelong passion for fishing.

After completing school, Angus moved to Cape Town, where he lived, trained and worked as a pilot for four years. He then returned to Kenya and began flying professionally, spending several years working in conservation and anti-poaching operations, mainly in and around Tsavo National Park. He later flew private charter, before going on to undertake humanitarian flying with Doctors Without Borders in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Eventually, the pull of the family safari business brought Angus back to guiding. His years in aviation, particularly his time working in conservation, have given him a different perspective on the continent. Having experienced the country both from the air and on the ground, he has a strong appreciation for the scale of its wilderness and the importance of protecting it.

Angus feels at home in the bush and enjoys sharing his knowledge of Kenya with guests. He is as interested in the landscape, people and stories of a place as he is in its wildlife. Conservation and protecting the natural world are an important part of the safari experience for him.

When he is not guiding, Angus continues to fly and remains involved in his family’s safari business in Kenya.
